Through a partnership with Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Southwest Workforce & Community Solutions, Code School participants will learn software developer skills and gain access to high-paying careers in the technology field.
CodeCrew and Southwest Workforce & Community Solutions have partnered to offer a six-month, 40-hour per week, software developer bootcamp beginning Feb. 3 at Southwest Tennessee Community College’s Union Avenue Campus, 737 Union Ave., Memphis, Tenn. Code School is designed to empower adults to become tech innovators and leaders with employment in the industry a key objective of the program.
“Coding bootcamps are increasingly popular as an alternative pathway to software engineering careers in cities around the country,” said Meka Egwuekwe, CodeCrew executive director, “until CodeCrew, Memphis was the largest city in the country without such a full-time coding bootcamp.”
CodeCrew launched Code School in July 2018, the first full-time coding bootcamp in Memphis, where students work in small classroom settings and use real-world technologies to learn the fundamentals of coding and software development. Also embedded within the program is essential skills leadership training to further increase job marketability.
“Today, adults who are often overlooked for opportunities in software careers, are not only getting high-quality training in this lucrative field, they are also helping to fill the overwhelming demand from employers,” added Egwuekwe. “We believe this newly skilled talent is transformative for Memphis.”
Applications to participate in the program are open now through Jan. 17. Applicants must complete an in-person interview and attend an open house to be considered for admission. Individuals with at least a GED or high school diploma are eligible to apply online at http://code-crew.org/codeschool. Anyone seeking to nominate a potential student should visit the website and complete a nomination form. Up to 18 credit hours toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in programming is available to CodeCrew graduates once enrolled as a Southwest student.
The cost to attend the program is $12,600 and can be paid in increments. Students may sign an income share agreement and work through a payment plan after employment is attained.
